AUP
Technology policies at many schools are known as Acceptable usage policy(AUP) which can be defined as “strategies that allow school districts to notify technology users of expected behavior and set for the consequences of misuse,” (Wells 69). "AUP policies are focused on preventing harm to students or abuse of the district's computer network,(CoSN).There are three type of AUP’s: student, staff and technology team (Wells). Acceptable use policies are not just a set of rules they are “ expectations for how students and sometimes faculty will use school resources,” (Grabe 280). AUP’s typically addresses the general uses of technology in schools. Students usually have to read and sign this document each year to make sure you understand and agree to the terms on the AUP they had to read. AUP’s are normally things users should not do with a list of consequences for misuse that can be a wide variety of things differing at each school. Most acceptable use policies do not address the use of social media, they just simply ban any form of social media( Frances)."Schools cannot rely totally on technological mechanisms to control how students will use the Internet, " (Grabe &Grabe).A key component is to have the AUP signed annually as well as reviewing your AUP yearly to update any policy that may need to be changed. (Wells 92).
